A note about evolving language: Using "they" as a singular pronoun is increasingly accepted by arbiters of English usage: The American Dialect Society even named it the 2015 Word of the Year. For example, NPR says that "Everyone Uses Singular 'They,' Whether They Realize It Or Not."

However, News University uses Associated Press (AP) style, which has not adopted this change. Therefore, the drills and assessments in the NewsU Language Primer treat "they" as a plural pronoun, and questions are marked correct / incorrect accordingly.
