About Webinars

In this virtual classroom, participants can join in a seminar led by Poynter faculty and visiting faculty. This screencast includes live audio and a slideshow presentation in which participants can post questions and respond to poll questions posed by the host.

If there’s a universal mantra for copy editors, it might be “When in doubt, look it up.” But no matter what you edit--or on what platform--there are some essentials you should know in your sleep.

In this Webinar, we will strengthen those core elements and hammer home the essentials you shouldn’t have to look up. This Webinar is about more than memorization, though. We also will take a step back to look at guiding principles that put all this stylebook geekery into perspective.

Bill Walsh

Bill Walsh was a multiplatform editor at The Washington Post and a three-decade veteran of newspaper journalism. He was the author of three books on usage and style, "Lapsing Into a Comma" (2000), "The Elephants of Style" (2004) and “Yes, I Could Care Less” (2013). He ran The Slot: A Spot for Copy Editors on the Web since 1995 and offered 140-character-or-less usage commentary on Twitter (@TheSlot) until his passing in 2017.
