With the turmoil in Egypt and elsewhere, we want to remind the Poynter News University community and others, who might being covering aspects of this story, that we have a couple of free and very helpful training modules.

Reporting Global Issues Locally. Learn how to report global issues on a local level that is relevant to your hometown audience - even without a travel budget. This module is especially helpful for those media organizations looking to improve their local coverage and draw upon what's happening in the world. This course was created in partnership with the Cox Center, a unit of the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.

International Reporting Basics: What You Need to Know Before You Go. Learn how to plan and pack for your trip, and how to gather information and stay safe once you arrive. If you haven't done international reporting, this is the first place you should start. This course was created with our partners at International Reporting Project, which is designed to educate U.S. journalists about global issues and to increase and improve the coverage of international topics in the U.S. news media.
