In this virtual classroom, participants can join in a seminar led by Poynter faculty and visiting faculty. This screencast includes live audio and a slideshow presentation in which participants can post questions and respond to poll questions posed by the host.

The specs for most smartphones match up well with the $65,000 broadcast cameras TV photojournalists used to lug around, but can you produce professional high quality video with a device that rattles around in the cup holder of your car?

We will explore the possibilities and limitations of the smartphone for use in professional video storytelling, talking about shooting and editing techniques and how to choose the hardware and software that will give you a high quality product you will want to put your brand on.

Mark E. Johnson

Mark E. Johnson is the Senior Lecturer of Photojournalism and Chief Technology Officer at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication where he oversees the Visual Journalism program. An early digital disciple and technology geek, he believes that the story is always more important than the form it’s presented in.
