Techint Storytelling Certificate Program

Course Overview

Techint Storytelling Certificate Program
Certificate Program

This program includes all the courses, plus the assessments that let your earn your certificate in storytelling and journalism.

About Certificate Programs

Certificates of proficiency are designed to measure your knowledge of essential skills or information. To receive a certificate, take the NewsU courses associated with that certificate program and then successfully complete the online assessment for each course. Once you've passed all the assessments, you will receive your certificate from Poynter's NewsU.

Telling a story, whether in words alone or with visuals, requires more than writing skill. The interactive courses and on-demand video replays in this series will show you the ropes, point you to the right resources and help you formulate the questions you most need answered. When you're done, you will have a solid understanding of what it takes to build a storytelling strategy, for any medium — including multimedia stories.

Courses included in this package

NOTE: Enroll in the course pack by clicking on the blue Enroll Now button and not in these courses separately. (Please note: Enrolling in the courses separately will not count toward the certificate.)

  • Clarity is Key: Making Writing Clean and Concise This Webinar will help cut through clutter and let content shine.

  • Getting Started with Mobile Reporting This session shares lessons on mobile journalism (MOJO) and how they apply to reporters and news operations that are shifting to live, picture, video and multimedia field reporting methods. It will discuss how to tell compelling stories using mobile devices and rich multimedia-enabled apps.

  • Writing Online Headlines: SEO and Beyond This session will discuss how to write headlines in the digital era to communicate news and information and how to engage readers with the content.

  • Feature Writing Foundations: Master Class with Lane DeGregory Pulitzer Prize-winner Lane DeGregory will help you find story ideas where you can really stretch yourself and your writing, turn short assignments into enriching opportunities and hone your skills as a writer.

  • Getting It Right: Accuracy and Verification in the Digital Age This self-directed course will equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to become more accurate journalists.

Complete each of the courses in this certificate program, then take the assessments for each one. A separate assessment tests you on the content from each course. You'll have three chances to pass each assessment.

Unlike traditional quizzes and activities from Poynter's NewsU, these assessments won't tell you the answers. So make sure you study hard when you take the courses.
